LaxFit Releases Their Dynamic Warm Up

-January 9th, 2020-

In October US Lacrosse announced a new program call LaxFit a new program aimed at boosting performance and preventing injury in lacrosse players.

The program is going to be released in stages and as a pre-release I think they posted their Dynamic Warm Up for lacrosse.

Years and Years ago I wrote an article The Warm Up is the Workout. In it I provide a sample warm up that can be done before games/practices/training sessions and discuss it’s importance.

If you look at the US Lacrosse version and compare it to the sample one I provided you will see they are VERY SIMILAR.

They both start out with slower, more basic movements, and gradually build up to more complex dynamic stretches and then finish with dynamic movement skills to really raise the temperature of the muscles.

Now there’s 2 ways I can go with this.

1st: I wrote this exact same thing 10 years ago! I’ve been trying to educate to stop just circle stretching before games for 10 YEARS and finally US Lacrosse has come up with the same thing.

2nd: I wrote this exact same thing 10 years ago and in that 10 years I have learned alot more about what we should be doing before a game/practice/workout. I’m not still doing the same thing as I did 10 years ago.

I always tell my athletes if my programs look exactly the same this year as they did last year that I have failed them. It means in an entire year I didn’t learn anything new or a better way to get them to where they want to be.

So to basically be doing the same warm up as I posted 10 YEARS AGO would be really failing.

So what have I changed?

We need to do more to open up the hips. To reset the position of the pelvis.

We need to do more to engage the core (abs/glutes).

We need to change direction in our movements. To prepare the body to decelerate and change direction in cuts and dodges.

We need to better mimic movements that the athlete will perform in a game.

I will soon post the exact warmup that I take the Toronto Rock through before every game and practice and my rational behind it next week.

(PS. I just searched google looking for a picture to include and I have another idea for a blog in the future, my least favorite warm up exercises I see almost every lacrosse team perform before a game and why I hate them and they aren’t doing what you think they are doing)
