-March 26th, 2020-
The world has changed since COVID-19 entered our lives. We are practising physical distancing, working from home, home from school etc.
Basically we are at home an awful lot more than we used to be. I closed my gym, The Dynamic Athlete, Monday March 16th as a precaution.
So what can you do to prepare for when things get back to (the new) normal to be ready for lacrosse season?
Right now there is no shortage of home workouts being posted online (since that’s all we can do). There’s bodyweight only workouts, there’s a pushup challenge circulating, there’s workouts that require bands or dumbbells. Whatever you want, you can find.
But all those are random workouts. You sweat that day, but is it getting you closer to where you want to be? Is it building to something? Are you training all the movements properly (it’s tough to train your back with no equipment)?
There is a difference between training and working out. Training has a plan. A goal. It builds on the workout before it, the week before it, the phase before it, so that you peak at the right time.
I’m going to give you an example of a 2 week program below I sent some of my athletes this week. It requires no equipment at all (well, you need a broom or dowel or lacrosse stick. But you have it at home).
I also sent them:
- a full warm up/mobility sheet
- A 4 week, 4 days a week Speed/Agility/Plyos program that progresses each week
- A Conditioning sheet that again had a 4 week progression to each conditioning drill
This is a full training program, and that’s the difference between a home workout that makes you sweat for 30 minutes cause you did 200 Burpees in it (I HATE BURPEES AND WOULD NEVER HAVE YOU DO ONE!!!) and a program that an athlete can use to train to be ready, more resilient to injury, faster, stronger, and better conditioned when the season starts.
Starting Monday I will be launching on Online Training Platform where you can get a personalized training program designed for you, your goals and equipment, your age and training level, delivered right to your phone with exercise videos right inside your daily workout.
I will post all the details about it on Monday. I’m still finalizing all the details and all the ways I can deliver an “above and beyond” service to maximize the value to you.
I’ve been searching for the right software platform to use for awhile now. I found the perfect one about a month ago and have been preparing to have it ready to go and with my extra time at home it’s now ready.
In the meantime, you can download the 2 week Excel program for FREE at COVID-19Workouts (If the format is a bit off it’s because I used my old Mac to do the program. It will take you to another page to click the link to download)
All the exercises can be found HERE. Dowel Pulldown can be found HERE. Inverted Row HERE
P.S. If you know you’re going to be interested you can email me at sean@thedynamicathlete.ca and we can discuss if the Online Program would be right for you.
