There is a big difference between the two.
Most players work out.
Working out is going to the gym and lifting without a plan. You may know what you want to do that day, what area you want to target, and what exercises you plan to do.
This week you might do Front Squats, Lateral Lunges, Single Leg Deadlifts when training your legs. You might do 8-10 reps for each exercise. But next week when you train your legs you do a Rear Foot Elevated Split Squat, Stability Ball Leg Curl, and a Reverse Lunge for 10 reps each.
All great exercises. But they do not build on each other. It is random.
You don’t have it written down. There isn’t a long term plan to your workouts. Every workout stands on it’s own.
Think of writing an essay without a plan. It would be all over the place. You’d probably be proving points on both sides of the issue. You’d wander off topic and discover at the end you weren’t anywhere close to where you wanted to be.
For it to make sense you need to come up with a thesis. You need to list your main points on the topic to be covered in the body of the essay. And then your conclusion has to bring it all together.
That is what Training is!
You set a goal, you decide how to get there, and you follow the plan until the conclusion.
Each individual workout builds on the last one to get you closer to that goal. You know that last week you did Front Squats with 185lbs for 8 reps, and the goal this week is 6 reps so you can lift 205lbs. You are building strength based on the plan.
Every workout gets you closer to your goal!
Training will yield much greater results than working out.
As I said, most players these days spend alot of time working out. The ones that get the best results are Training!
Simply just recording what you are doing in the gym will get you much better results than if you don’t write down what you did.
But having a plan will be even greater!
If you want to take your game to the next level, make sure you are Training!
